Who we are
Celestia ("Celestia", "we", "us", "our") provides personalised astrology readings online at starwritten.co. For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, we act as the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. What we collect
- Birth details you enter — your name (or chosen name), and your date, time, and place of birth. These are used to calculate your astrological chart and generate your reading.
- Email address — only if you ask us to email your reading to you, or if you provide it during checkout.
- Payment information — when you buy a reading, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe processes the payment and returns only a confirmation and limited details (such as the email used and the last digits of the card) needed to deliver and account for your purchase.
- Anything you choose to submit — for example, a few words about your experience if you decide to share feedback. Submitting feedback is entirely optional (see "Feedback you share" below).
- Limited technical data — to deliver the service and prevent abuse, we store a randomly generated identifier in your browser to recognise that a free reading has been used, and our hosting provider may process standard technical information such as IP address and device/ browser type as part of normal operation and security.
About your birth details
Your name and birth date, time, and place are personal data. We treat them with care, use them only to produce your reading, and do not use them to identify or profile you for any other purpose. We do not ask for, and ask that you do not submit, sensitive information such as health, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, or political opinions — none of it is needed for a reading. Please do not submit other people's birth details unless you have their permission.
How we use your information
- To calculate your chart and generate, display, and (if requested) email your reading.
- To take payment for paid readings and keep proper records of purchases.
- To operate the free-reading limit and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To respond to you if you contact us.
- With your explicit choice, to display feedback you submit (first name and city only) on our site.
Our lawful bases (UK/EU GDPR) are: performance of a contract (delivering a reading you requested or purchased), our legitimate interests (running and securing the service, improving it, and showing approved feedback), and your consent (for example, emailing your reading or featuring your feedback), which you may withdraw at any time.
Service providers we share data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share only what is necessary with the providers that make the service work:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Anthropic — the AI model that writes your reading receives your chart details and name to generate the text. It is not used to train models on your data under our API terms.
- Resend — email delivery, used only if you request your reading by email.
- Vercel — hosting and the data store (Vercel KV) where purchase tokens, the free-reading marker, and any feedback you submit are kept.
Some of these providers operate outside the UK/EU. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the providers' own approved transfer mechanisms.
How long we keep it
Your reading is generated for you in the moment; we do not maintain a long-term archive of readings tied to your identity. Technical markers (such as the free-reading identifier) and purchase tokens expire automatically, typically within about 30 days. Records we are required to keep for tax and accounting (such as proof of a sale) are retained for as long as the law requires. Approved feedback is kept until you ask us to remove it or we choose to retire it.
Feedback you share
If you choose to share a few words about your experience, your submission is held privately in a review queue and is not published automatically. A person reviews each submission. We may choose to feature approved feedback on our home page — shown using only a first name and city (or anonymously) — and approved feedback may be displayed on a rotating basis alongside others. We may lightly edit for length or clarity without changing meaning. You can ask us to remove your feedback at any time by emailing us. Please do not include personal information, about yourself or others, that you would not want shown publicly.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data, including to access it, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email starwritten.celestia@gmail.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. If you are in the UK or EU and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
Children
Celestia is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Cookies and similar technologies
We keep this to a minimum. We use only what is necessary to operate the service (such as the browser identifier for the free-reading limit and the secure handling of a checkout session). We do not use advertising trackers.
